Whether you love Google or hate them, there really is no argument against their behemoth success.
Commanding about 70 percent of the search market shares, with over one billion users worldwide, and a gross revenue of over $30 billion per year, Google literally rules.
How can you use Google’s strategies to pave your path to success? Here’s what Google does right.
1. They Keep It Simple

Many companies try to survive on bells and whistles when customers are actually looking for the nuts and bolts. Today’s consumers are starving for real value. Google doesn’t overstuff their products with fancy features. Their products are easy enough for a child to use. Just look at Google’s homepage to see how something can be simply beautiful, and work astoundingly well.
2. They Are a Team

Teamwork is the backbone of Google, and has been since Larry Page met Sergey Brin. Ironically, the two didn’t hit it off at first, and their first discussion was actually a heated argument. But, they learned how to collaborate, and having different minds and personalities involved in the creative process produced a better outcome than a single thinker. The best ideas always come from a group of thinkers, not just a single mind.
3. They Don’t Stop at Great

Google has never accepted being great. It simply isn’t good enough. Their products are so great they don’t even have to advertise, and manage to command more market shares than all the heavy advertisers: Bing, Yahoo!, and Ask.com. Yet they still keep improving. Never let your company rest on its laurels.
4. They Give It Away

Some of the most popular software we use is free from Google. They give us Gmail, Google Docs, Analytics, Chrome, Google Earth, Adsense and much more without charging us a dime. Even Google Hurdles was fun stuff for a day. How do you build a $30 million per year company without charging anything? You use Google’s free stuff, and it works better than anything we would pay for.
Consumers have learned to associate Google with quality, and the users flock to use Google’s stuff. Hence, Google can charge bucket loads of money for their ads, and customers don’t hesitate to buy Google’s paid products, such as Chromebook, because they associate it with high quality.
5. They Keep Their Secrets

Google vigilantly protects what makes them unique. Their PageRank algorithm is one of the best protected trade secrets around. Protect what makes your company special at all costs.
6. They Don’t Tell, They Show

Companies often think lots of hype generates interest sales, but Google has taken the opposite approach. Instead of hyping up their products, they simply put out a great thing and let us do the oohing and aahing for them. Give your customers something awesome, and let them hype you up.
7. They Have a Personality

Google is known for their April Fools Jokes, and other fun, silly things that show they have a personality. Nobody wants to do business with a stiff shirt! Show your carefree side, without ever letting it shake your quality.
8. Nothing Wicked This Way Goes

Google’s unofficial motto is, “Don’t be evil.” This means they refuse to take advantage of their customers, do their best to treat the environment responsibly, and adhere to high human rights standards. If you run over people, you might get by with it for a while. But in the end, your industry’s version of Google will eat you alive. Also the hackers are out there constantly trying to hack Google and make a name for themselves.
Google built their massive enterprise on these eight principles, and by following their lead, your company can grow and prosper, too.
